Elaine Campbell I read most of the reviews for this crockpot oatmeal and decided to follow your directions as close as I could. I put the 2 cups of oatmeal in the bottom. Then I added 1/2 cup of brown sugar (packed) because I didn't have any agave syrup or maple flavoring. Then I added a tsp of allspice (couldn't find the cinnamon). Ii covered all that with 2 cups of milk and 1-1/2 cups of water and then I put the sliced apples on top (Granny Smith). I put a few dabs of butter on top. I set the crockpot to low, and I started it cooking at approximately midnight. Now I'm going to sleep and can't wait to see how it turns out in the morning. Thank you Elaine.

Thank you Elaine. Next time I will try it your way. I dod salvage my pot though. I decided to just add about 3/4 cup more of oats and turn the crocker back on for another hour. Added a bit more brown sugar also. That made it turn out the way I had anticipate...yummy! My crock pot does run hot even on low, so next time shorter cooking time.

Tracey, please read what I did to make it turn out good! I had the same problem. I think some crock pots cook "hotter" than others. Good luck! :)

Help! Had a bit of a problem with this and want to try again. I made this last night. Put in the crock pot around 1030pm. Got up at 7am, to a pot of brown gruel with a few apple chunks floating. It smells wonderful. any suggestions on what might have gone wrong. I know my measurements were correct. The only thing I can think is my apples were too big. They are rather large, but mealy tasting Red Delicious.
