After making the biscuits off of this recipe the first time around, I was amazed at just how flakey they are when they are done! My only concern was just how long do I mix it. When I turned them out to start kneading, the mix appeared a little crumbly to me. I did mix everything by hand ( I used a fork of course). The other key thing that most people do not know (including me at the time) is that if you take the rack and put it in the 2nd to last spot from the bottom, The biscuits cook much better, and you get the right color in browning done to both the top as well as the bottom! When I cooked other recipes I use to have the rack in the center, because I thought that is where it needed to be. Tho using your recipe, I felt it better once I seen how they came out to cook 1 space lower. It cooked evenly and thoroughly through.
