PIZZA FOR BREAKFAST? YOU BET!

Blue Ribbon Recipe

Notes from the Test Kitchen:
I am always looking for different ways to prepare breakfast for my family and this one is a keeper. It was a hit in our house. More bacon would jazz it up a bit as would some jalapeno peppers for those who like it spicy. There are so many ways you could make it your own... Have fun!

Ingredients

6 1/2 oz
pizza crust mix
4
sausages or turkey sausage, cooked & crumbled
4 slice
bacon or turkey bacon, cooked & crumbled
1 c
cheddar cheese, grated (can use fat-free or low-fat)
1 c
frozen hash browns, thawed
4
eggs, whole, slightly beaten (can use egg whites only)
3 Tbsp
milk (can use skim)
1 tsp
salt
1/2
black pepper

Directions Step-By-Step

1
PREHEAT OVEN TO 375. ON A NON-STICK COOKIE SHEET, PREPARE PIZZA CRUST ACCORDING TO PACKAGE DIRECTIONS. (IF YOU BAKE IT FIRST FOR 5 MINUTES, IT'LL BE CRISPER ON THE BOTTOM.) SPRINKLE SAUSAGE AND BACON OVER CRUST.
2
SPRINKLE WITH HASH BROWNS AND CHEDDAR CHEESE. MEANWHILE, IN A MIXING BOWL, COMBINE EGGS, MILK, SALT, AND BLACK PEPPER. POUR OVER POTATOES AND CHEDDAR CHEESE. BAKE FOR 20 MINUTES OR UNTIL CRUST IS GOLDEN BROWN.

Hi Bonnie, can extra sharp cheddar be used, and what about regular sausage? Squeezed in a cheese cloth to get the extra oil out? I'm loving your recipe. My boys are asking for a little more flavor, and I dont want to mess with the integrity of your dish.

This is one of those recipes you can get creative with and do whatever you like. There are many good suggestions here. If you have teen boys with big appetites, it sounds perfect.

I think salsa added to the egg mixture would give it more kick...or put some on the top after baking.

I put sausage gravy on the crust after baking the first 5 minutes, then added the meat and other stuff, yummy!

I would try this with seasoned sausage, onions and peppers to give it more flavor.
