Ingredients

4 c
flour
3 Tbsp
sugar
1 Tbsp
baking powder
1 tsp
salt
3/4 tsp
baking soda
6 Tbsp
butter
1 1/2 c
raisins
1 Tbsp
caraway seeds
2
eggs
1 1/2 c
buttermilk

Step-By-Step

1Preheat oven to 350F. Grease 1 9 inch round pan. In mixer bowl combine flour, caraway, raisins, cubed butter, sugar, baking powder, salt, baking soda.

2In measuring cup with buttermilk add one egg and beat. in a separate bowl take remaining egg and a bit of water and beat - reserve this to brush dough with just prior to placing in the oven.

3With mixer on low speed add buttermilk and egg mixture. Mix until just blended do not over mix. Place dough on floured surface add a bit more flour to top of dough ball and knead for about 10 strokes to make a ball. Place in greased pan.

4Baste with egg wash then cut a cross on the top with a sharp knife. Bake for 1 1/2 hours. Allow to cool and wrap in plastic wrap this goes stale quickly. A great addition to the final product is Guinness Butter...2 sticks of room temp butter 3 oz of Guinness 3 tablespoons honey beat in mixer. Served on this bread is very yummy!
