flour (sifted 3 times)
1 1/2 tsp
of each: baking soda and baking powder
buttermilk (can also use sour milk)
1Sift the flour, baking soda and powder into a bowl. Add in the sugar and raisins. Stir with a wooden spoon. Add in the buttermilk and form a dough. On a floured surface, knead to dough by folding the dough into itself over and over. Form a round shape and cut a cross shape on the dough to keep the bread from "bursting" during the baking process. Bake the bread for 35-40 minutes at 350°F.
*** Serve with Irish butter (or any butter). Eat warm, cold or toasted.
2*** Traditional is with raisins, but you can substitute craisins or dried cherries. Or... omit any fruit.
