Notes from the Test Kitchen:
Yummy! The filling in this banana bread is a really neat surprise when you first cut into this loaf. I did put some nuts, sugar and cinnamon on the top of the loaf before baking. I enjoyed it while it was still just a little warm and then again when it was entirely cool. Both were tasty, but I must say I liked it a little warm. The flavors are just right!

1 c
1/2 c
butter, softened
mashed ripe bananas
1 tsp
1 tsp
baking soda
3 Tbsp
sour cream
2 c
1 c
chopped nuts
8 oz
softened cream cheese
1/3 c
1 Tbsp

Directions Step-By-Step

Mix 1 cup sugar, butter & 2 eggs. Add bananas, salt, the soda dissolved in sour cream, & 2 cups flour. Mix well and add nuts.
Divide 1/2 of this mixture into 2 greased & floured loaf pans.
Combine cream cheese mixture ingredients and spread over mixture in pans. Spread remaining banana bread batter on top.
PS ~ I like to sprinkle a few extra nuts on top or sprinkle top with 1 T. sugar mixed w. 1/2 T. cinnamon before baking. Makes a nice crunchy top. But that's totally optional.
Bake at 350 for 1 hour. Test for doneness.
Cool and slice. Makes a lovely presentation.

Had lots of bananas that were about to go bad so I just baked these. Added some cinnamon and vanilla extract. This is delicious!! Super moist perfection. I am definitely going to be making these for holiday gatherings and such. Nice little twist on a holiday favorite.

I had seen a cream cheese stuffed banana bread somewhere and was thinking of making one. So I searched JAP and found yours, when I compared it to my Grandma's banana nut bread they were exactly the except hers didn't have the sour cream. I knew then and there it was a winner.

I didn't convert it to use Truvia because my Momma is diabetic and it was delish that way also. Love Love Love

I really don't like banana bread all that much because it always seem so dry to me, but I made it because the cream cheese layer looked good. Oh, my goodness! This banana bread is WICKED GOOD! The only change I made was to grease my pans with oil, then "flour" them with cinnamon sugar. I always do this with my bundt cakes and it makes a crust on whatever you're baking. I also added pecans on top of the bread! I doubled the recipe and used it to make 2 pans of banana bread. Believe me, this is the ONLY BANANA BREAD recipe you will ever need!
