In a large bowl, beat butter and sugar until crumbly. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Beat in the bananas, buttermilk, vanilla. In another bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt; stir into creamed mixture. Fold in chips.
Transfer to prepared pan. Bake at 350 for 60 to 65 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool for ten minutes before removing from pan to a wire rack; remove paper.
