Sarah's Notes:
I love using buttermilk in my recipes and altered one calling for cream and baking powder. 1/2 pound of breakfast sausage may be substituted for the bacon and is equally as good. This is a great breakfast alternative to a sweet scone. Great grab 'n go breakfast when running late for school, work, etc.

Pictured is the scone using breakfast sausage.

Comments from the Test Kitchen:
Definitely great for breakfast, but also TREMENDOUS alongside soup or a salad for lunch!

Directions

1
Sift together dry ingredients. Cut in butter. Add cheese and bacon. Mix well. Stir in buttermilk until blended.
2
Divide dough in half and flatten into about 1/2 inch thick round. Score each round into 8 pieces.
3
Place on greased cookie sheet about 1 inch apart and bake at 400 degrees for about 20-25 mins. Serve warm or at room temp.

Sounds yummy! I usually cut up my bacon into small pieces before frying... how much bacon would I need to use to make 1 cup? Definitely trying this one!

I'm dieting at the moment but this looks like a keeper and a jumping off spot when I have reached my goal weight. LOL

Lauren - I made them again and used about 12 slices. Maybe about 1/2 lb.

Made these and they were delicious!! I used 1/2 pound of bacon, and added just a little extra cheddar (I LOVE cheese! lol). They were so good! And a thumbs up from the family as well... ^_^
