Ingredients

4 medium green tomatoes
1 1/2 c all purpose flour
1/2 c cornmeal
1 large egg beaten with 1/2 cup water
salt and pepper to taste
1 Tbsp bacon drippings
1/4 c vegetable oil

Just not summer without Fried Green Tomatoes! The cornmeal gives these a bit more of a crunch!

Wash and slice tomatoes to 1/4 inch thinkness.

Fill ziplock bag with flour and cornmeal.

Mix the beaten egg with 1/2 cup cold water.

Heat bacon drippings with oil to a frying temp

Dip several slices of tomatoe into egg mixture then into the flour mixture to coat. Add your salt and pepper and fry until tomatoes are tender and breading is a golden brown

I love fried green tomatoes, and I enjoy many different recipes for them, but yours sounds perfect to me. I think the cornmeal really adds that extra something. Thank you for sharing Lisa, I will definitely try these.
