Kathy's Notes:

I wanted to try something different instead of a plain onion ring! So I came up with Onion Balls!

Onion Broilers are like pearly onions, but a little bigger! Found in the PRODUCE SECTION LABLED ONION BROILERS!!

Comments from the Test Kitchen: Kitchen Crew

What a wonderfully difference appetizer for your next dinner party! With 4 tablespoons of red pepper they do pack a healthy punch, but they were still definitely a unanimous hit with the entire Crew.

Directions

1
Preheat deep fryer to 400 degrees.
2
In a medium bowl add the sour cream, ranch packet, one tablespoon of the cajun seasoning, and 1/2 teaspoon of the red pepper, mix well. Chill while onion boilers cook.
3
In a medium bow add the flour, egg, milk, mix well.
4
Add 4 tablespoons of cajun seasoning to the batter.
5
Add 4 tablespoons of the red pepper to the batter.
6
Add the salt and black pepper to the batter, mix well.
7
Take each onion boiler and coat with the batter. Deep fry for 1-2 minutes.
8
Drain on paper towel!
9
Enjoy with Cajun sauce!

I too admit that I did not know what onion boilers were----still not sure if I have ever seen them in the grocery store. In the same dept. as bags of onions??? Am definitely going to try this (as soon as I find the boilers)

I have seen them in bags at the store. If you grow green onions, and let them in ground extra long, they develop into lil ball onions as well. I loved eating them as a kid. my dad grew them
