JANE's Notes:
My habit of stopping off at the gas station for my morning cappuchino or to Caribu Coffee when I had money for their cappuchino, come to an abrupt halt when I started my no sugar lifestyle. I felt deprived. One day, I found a way to get around it. I took a cup of coffee in my thermal mug and added 1 NO SUGAR ADDED SWISS MISS HOT COCOA mix to my coffee instead of just plain hot water. I added 1 teaspoon of splenda to sweeten the coffee and voila! I was saved. I love my morning No Sugar cappuchino and filling my thermal mug to take to work empowers me to stay on my eating plan without any regrets. For a nice afternoon "pick-me-up" I drink a cup of coffee with a Sugar Free Russell Stover candy. That warm coffee melting the chocolate in my mouth is euphoric and no sugar gives me no guilt. Russell Stover has many varieties of chocolate candies. They cost about $1.99 for 8 pieces.

Directions

1
In 12 oz. mug or thermal mug, pour coffee. Add 1 teaspoon sugar and 1 packet of swiss miss. Stir real good until swiss miss is dissolved.
2
OPTION: If you want, whip some heavy whipping cream with a teaspoon or 2 of splenda added to it before whipping. Keep it in a container in the fridge and add to your SF cappachino.

Jane, this recipe does sound very tasty. I was not going to post this and I hope I don't offend you or anyone, I don't know why you started your no sugar lifestyle but I applaud you for it. White "foods" (ei: sugar, flour, rice ect..) are so bad for our bodies. My sons have ADHD so I have talked to Doctors and read many many things about food and what is best for our bodies. You may want to look into the sugar free food and additives (like nutra sweet and splenda) and see just how bad these can be for you (including weight gaining) Things like honey and such are a much better choice. If you have a health food store around you that is a great place to find yummy things to add to your coffee. I am not a "heath food nut" I just resarched alot to give my kids a better lifestyle and I just like to share what I have learned, so please take this with a grain of salt, and if you don’t agree please disregard but if you are interested there is a lot of information out there on different “sugarfree” alternatives.

Denise, Thanks for your comment...no offense taken. I have lost 220lbs. and have kept it off 4.3 years now. I use splenda. I don't like the taste of any other sweetner. It has never given me any adverse reaction. My whole family tree is filled with diabetics...dead diabetics. I decided when I turned 45 to change my course of life. I researched for several months, which turned into continuing ed.for me as I studied how to eat to lose weight and keep it off. All the white stuff like flour and sugar,etc...you know what they are, are like cocaine and poison to the body. So, I guess, if I had to choose between dying of sugar or using splenda I made my choice. HOWEVER, I would be very happy to hear more about what splenda or whatever the substance was that actually caused weight gain, does to the body and what it is. Fill me in. Like I said, I'm still learning. I hope you get this comment.

Sorry it took me a little while to get back to you Jane. That is so awesome you lost so much weight!! Good for you! :) Ok here are some of the books you might want to check out, you can find them on amazon or maybe even your libary might be able to get them for you. Which the libary also has some intresting books on this subject. Sweet Deception: Why Splenda, NutraSweet, and the FDA May Be Hazardous to Your Health, Sweet Misery: A Poisoned World, Skinny Bitch there are many more but here is just a start. Also look on the internet. Honey is a great alternative because of all its wonderful benefits it has http://www.benefits-of-honey.com/ is one site of many that will give you more info. Also there is stevia which I have not tried yet but everything I have read about it sounds good so I will be trying it soon. You may also want to try adding a little cinnamon in your coffee grounds before you brew your coffee to give it a wonderful taste (if you like the taste of cinnamon) BTW cinnamon also has alot of wonderful benefits for the body. Also, dark chocolate is great for the body so maybe you could have a small piece of dark chocotate instead of sugarfree, green and blacks is a great brand. I know it may be a little more money then the other brand but if you think about health it might be worth the extra cost and if you are only eating a piece with your coffe it could go a long way. http://www.organicfacts.net/health-benefits/other/health-benefits-of-dark-chocolate.html I hope this is helpful information for you. :) Denice

I am a leader of a TOPS group, and like you have been losing weight, I too have been doing the swiss Miss in the coffee and when I feel extra indulgent I use little sugar free hazelnut creamer instead of the splenda. As I said I am leader of TOPS group and if you would care to share your story about your weight loss, I would love to use it at a meeting. Thanks for posting the recipe, those of us who are coffee addicts appreciate it!!

Hi Karen,
If you send me your email address I will send you what I do. This isn't a diet and it really is an eating lifestyle that a person can live with forever. I lost 120lbs. in 10 months and 150lbs. in a year. Understanding plateaus made me actually enjoy them. A plateau in weight loss is really when we lose inches. It gives the body a time to readjust how many skin cells it needs now that fat has disappeared. It doesn't need to make so many cells to cover our body when our body is shrinking right? So, when the body stops losing weight for a time, it is recalculating and then we experience lose in inches. Losing inches doesn't happen when we lose weight, except for our waistlines because our stomach doesn't stick out so much. Send me your email and I will give you all the info you'll need to share it with your group. Isn't it strange that I have had several women ask me to send them info on how I lost weight and we're all on a recipe website. Food can be our drug of choice and instead of meth labs we have kitchens! Actually, SUGAR and starches is our drug of choice and our meth lab is our kitchen.

No. I didn't join any group because I wasn't on a diet. I was trying to get healthy and the weight just fell off. I'm not good on diets because I enjoy eating...and enjoy social functions which includes eating. When you receive my info you'll see what I'm talking about. I'll email it now.
