Vonna's Notes:

These cookies are so easy to make and everybody loves them. It's fun to experiment with different cake flavors, too. We've made these with coconut cake mix and added coconut flakes as well.

Comments from the Test Kitchen: Kitchen Crew

These cookies are easy to prepare and MUCH easier to enjoy.  I love the crunchiness on the outside and the gooey inside.

These are great. I added alittle nutmeg and mace and raisins and they were out of this world. The plain ones were great too.

Do you have to use butter or can you substitute margarine?

Oooh! I have a box of butter recipe cake mix and was wondering what I could do with it, I'm glad I happened across this, I'm going to try it tonight! :)

Stephanie, margarine would possibly make the cookie spread out a little more and the texture may be a little different, but they would most likely be fine.

I might substitute lemon extract for vanilla.

I've been making these for years, but only used 3 ingredients. (the cake mix, the butter (or margarine), and the cream cheese. OH and of course the powdered sugar) They are also good using a strawberry cake mix!
