Ingredients For simple green beans with ham

2 lbfresh green beans

1/4 lbcooked ham, cubed or in strips (or cooked bacon)

1onion, chopped

1 tspsugar
-
3 1/2 cwater

black pepper to taste

you might need salt but check as ham can be very salty
How To Make simple green beans with ham

1Rinse beans, snip off ends and and slice to desired length. Place beans in pot with ham, onion, sugar, pepper, and water. Bring to a boil and then turn down heat to a simmer, cover pot, and cook for 1 hour on low.

2Remove cover from pot. Turn heat up to medium and cook for about 20 minutes more or until liquid is reduced to a thick sauce you will serve with beans. Grandma often served these with a slice of ham and corn bread.
