The Austrians use noodles in the shape of little squares for this dish. If you wish to be completely authentic, you can break your raw noodles into 3/4-inch pieces, then cook them until tender.

Ingredients For noodles with ham (schinkenfleckerln)

  • 1/3 c
    butter
  • 1 md
    onion, minced
  • 3 c
    cooked ham, cubed
  • 4 c
    medium egg noodles (8-oz), cooked
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 1/4 tsp
    pepper
  • 1 tsp
    caraway seeds

How To Make noodles with ham (schinkenfleckerln)

    Heat butter or margarine in large skillet. Sauté onion in it until soft and golden.

    Add ham and cook over low heat for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.

    Add noodles, salt, pepper, and caraway seeds and toss together. Cook for 5 minutes, or until thoroughly heated through, stirring frequently.
