This was given to me by a good friend whose parents are from Germany. I tweaked it to my liking and actually prepared this on TV for a cooking show in our area. My family all loves it and this is one of my most requested dishes to bring to family gatherings. I hope your family will love it too!

Ingredients For german potatoes

  • 2 cups
    water
  • 1 Cup
    sugar
  • 1/2 Cup
    white vinegar
  • 3 Tbsp
    flour
  • 3 Tbsp
    bacon grease
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2-1 lb
    bacon (i like maple bacon)
  • 4-5
    large potatoes, any variety
  • 1
    med-large onion, any flavor i like vidalia

How To Make german potatoes

  • 1
    Grease a two quart cassarole dish and add first 6 ingredients. While bacon is cooking, slice your potatoes about 1/4" in slices and slice the onion. Once Bacon is cooled combine the potatoes, onions and crumbled bacon into cassarole dish. Cook in a 350 degree oven for approximately 1 1/2-2 hours or till potatoes are done.
