fruit & spiced pear halves
(1 rating)
I had this idea rolling around for a while, but never thought to try it until now. I like sweet, tart and nutty things together, so this is really a dish made just for me, but everyone at dinner tonight really enjoyed them with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. The spices in the finished syrup give it a spiced flavor that reminds me of the pears Mom and Grammie used to can.

How To Make fruit & spiced pear halves
-
1Drain the liquid out of the pears and set aside. Refrigerate pear halves until ready to serve.
-
2In a saucepan over high heat, mix 1 cup reserved juices, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and sugar. Bring to a boil and turn heat to medium, keeping it at a strong simmer. Add the cranberry and raisins and continue to simmer about 5 minutes. Add the apple pieces and simmer a few more minutes. The liquid should be slightly reduced and become syrupy.
-
3Remove syrup from heat and allow to cool slightly.
-
4To serve, scoop about a tablespoon or so of fruit from the syrup into the center of each pear. Top with some finely chopped walnuts, then pour/drizzle syrup over the fruit and pears. I ended up serving these alongside a scoop of vanilla ice cream and drizzled a bit of the syrup over the ice cream as well.
