These bars are like a spice cake and an apple pie with a glaze. They are loaded with apples and spices and a 1/2 cup of strong coffee to boot. For-goodness-sakes there good!

Ingredients For spicy apple bars

  • 1/4 c
    butter flavored crisco, softened
  • 1 c
    brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 1
    egg, lightly beaten
  • 1/2 c
    strong hot coffee
  • 1 1/2 c
    flour
  • 1 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 1/2 tsp
    cinnamon
  • dash of cloves
  • 2 c
    diced apples
  • 1/2 c
    nuts
  • FROSTING
  • 2 Tbsp
    butter, softened
  • 2 c
    powdered sugar
  • 2 Tbsp
    milk
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla

How To Make spicy apple bars

    In a large mixing bowl, cream shortening and brown sugar together. Stir in egg and coffee.

    In a seperate bowl, sift dry ingredients together. Add dry ingredients to creamed mixture and mix well. Fold in apples and nuts.

    Pour mixture into a greased 13x9 baking pan. Bake at 350 for 18-20 minutes.

    Frosting- In a mixing bowl, combine butter, powdered sugar, milk and vanilla and blend well. Frost bars while still warm. Cut into bars and serve.
