Congratulations to JAMIE BURRIS of Fayetteville, AR! Her KUGELIS was tops in the Just A Pinch Heirloom Recipe Contest. The combination of yummy, breakfast-y flavors, presentation and family story totally won over our panel of judges!

"This recipe was brought by my great-grandparents from Lithuania when them immigrated here in the early 20th century," explains Jamie. "My grandfather then taught my grandmother to make it, who taught my mother, who taught me. It's a dish that I can remember having at my grandparents house when I was little. It's a true heirloom recipe."

Jamie's Grand Prize includes:
  • Travel for two to Nashville, TN
  • Two nights hotel accommodations
  • Two tickets to a Grand Ole Opry performance (subject to scheduling and availability)
  • A $1,000 cook's dream shopping spree at the Viking Culinary Arts Center in historic downtown Franklin, TN
  • ... and the opportunity to prepare the winning recipe with Janet at a Blue Ribbon Showcase Event!

Now, why not ENTER TO WIN some tasty prizes of your own?!

Meet Jamie and Hear About Her Blue Ribbon Experience!

Thanks to all of you who entered your family recipes! We were flat out blown away by all the delicious recipes and touching stories shared by folks from all corners. There were SO many terrific entries, but these deserving gals came in First Place in each of the contest categories:

MAIN COURSE:
MAMA'S SWEDISH MEATBALLS - Marybeth Mank of Mesquite, TX
"When I smell these meatballs cooking, they are the smell of heaven to me. My mom is a great cook with a ton of fantastic recipes, but this recipe is by far my most favorite one. I think it stems from when I was growing up. Mom fixed these meatballs for all sorts of potluck suppers, PTA meetings, etc. Often, she would cook them while we were getting dressed for school. Somehow, oatmeal or Cheerios just didn’t cut it when those meatballs were browning. As silly as it may be, I actually dream of these meatballs. Yes, I can cook this recipe for myself, but it just doesn’t taste as good as when Mom cooks it. :-)"

SIDE:
EGGPLANT PIE WITH ITALIAN SAUSAGE AND BECHAMEL - Mary R. Morris of Western Grove, AR
"This is one of my Granny's recipes. Whenever I make this it reminds me of her love and all she did for us. When this is baking in the oven and the smell fills the house, it is like being a child again... My granny raised us and I love to cook foods the remind me of her love..."

DESSERT:
ALMOND-LACED BANANA CAKE - Mary Shivers of Western Ada, OK
"Growing up, anytime we had bananas that would get brown spots, Mom would always use them to make her famous cake, usually for Sunday lunch for our very large family. What I didn’t realize was that Mom utilized everything she could, rarely throwing things away if she could help it. Since we didn’t like 'ripe' bananas, this cake was a regular around our house! I love this version I created using almond in three different ways to enhance the bananas; it is great to serve as a dessert but also works well for brunch or even breakfast."
