These are delicious onion fritters that I have made many times. This batter would also be great for onion rings! It's so light and crisp.

Ingredients For amish onion fritters

  • 3/4 c
    all-purpose flour
  • 1 Tbsp
    granulated sugar
  • 1 Tbsp
    cornmeal
  • 2 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1-2 tsp
    salt or to taste
  • 3/4 c
    milk
  • 1 1/2 md
    onions, chopped (about 2 1/2 cups)

How To Make amish onion fritters

    Mix the dry ingredients.

    Add milk and stir.

    The batter will be thick.

    Add onions and mix thoroughly.

    Heat 1/2 inch of oil in a skillet over medium-high heat to 350 - 375 F. Drop batter by tablespoons into the hot oil. Flatten slightly. Brown on both sides until crisp.

    Drain on paper towels. Serve warm.
