A soup made with any combination of root vegetables (that grow under the ground like potatoes, carrots, and rutabaga) is very healing for colds or flu. In Ireland and Scotland rutabagas have been carved out and used as candle lanterns in windows to ward off harmful spirits during Halloween celebrations

Ingredients For mashed potatoes with rutabagas

  • 1 lg
    rutabaga
  • 4 md
    potatoes
  • 1/4 c
    milk
  • 2 Tbsp
    butter
  • salt and pepper to taste

How To Make mashed potatoes with rutabagas

    Peel, rinse and cut rutabaga and potatoes into cubes. Cover with water in medium pan.

    Simmer (20 minutes) or until done. Drain water

    Add milk, butter, salt and pepper. Mash until well blended together.
