Apple Sweet Potato Bake

Nicole Bredeweg

I'm always looking for new, fun ways to spice up the regular dishes. So I tried this one and will integrate it into our next holiday meals. It comes from one of the Taste of Homes publications.

  • 3 c
sliced peeled cooked sweet potatoes (i use one bag)
  • 3 c
sliced peeled tart apples (about 2 large)
  • 3/4 c
    packed brown sugar
  • 1-1/2 tsp
  • 1/2 tsp
    allspice, ground
  • 1/2 tsp
  • 2 dash(es)
  • 3 Tbsp
    butter, cold

How to Make Apple Sweet Potato Bake

  1. In a greased 1-½ qt baking dish, layer half of the sweet potatoes and apples. Combine brown sugar, nutmeg, allspice, salt, and pepper; sprinkle half of this mixture over the apples. Dot with half the butter. Repeat layers. If you're dish is shallow and wide instead of deep, you'll only be able to do one attractive layer.
  2. Cover and bake at 350*F for 30 minutes. Baste with pan juices. Bake, uncovered, 30 minutes longer or until the apples are tender.
