This warm fragrant side dish reminds me of my grandmother Lexie's kitchen. She was a wonderful cook and my siblings and I have such special memories of Sunday dinner at my grandparents' house.

Ingredients For cool weather stewed apples

  • 3 to 4
    large granny smith apples
  • 1 1/2
    cup water
  • 1/4
    cup packed brown sugar
  • 2
    tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1/4
    teaspoon salt
  • 1/2
    teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4
    teaspoon nutmeg

How To Make cool weather stewed apples

  • 1
    Wash, core, peel, and slice the apples. (Combine all of the dry ingredients together before adding to the apples and water.)

    In a medium-size saucepan over low heat combine the apples, water, brown sugar, flour, salt, flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg and cook for 30 to 40 minutes.

    Simmer until the apples are tender, but not too soft. 6 servings
