I thought it would be a great idea to post the instructions for making the gravy portion of the Swedish Meat Balls, in the event you have some pre-made Meat Balls, or have a bag of frozen ones, this is a great gravy mix to add meat balls too for a quick dinner idea. The flavor of this quick recipe is very good, you can cut back on the sodium content by using a low sodium beef broth or using a homemade version. This is a quick and easy recipe, you can cut the recipe in half if you are only using a few meat balls, but we like lots of gravy with ours. Give it a try and see what you think.

How To Make swedish meat ball gravy

  • 1
PLEASE NOTE YOU CAN USE ALL HEAVY WHIPPING CREAM & OMIT THE YOGURT IF DESIRED, BUT I USED HALF & HALF WITH FAT FREE YOGURT TO CUT THE CALORIE COUNT. LOW SODIUM OR HOMEMADE BEEF BROTH CAN HELP IN CUTTING THE SODIUM IN THIS RECIPE. This is most of the main ingredients.
  • 2
Melt butter in a large skillet, I used a 16 inch size skillet. Use medium high heat.
  • 3
Add flour & stir till blended.
  • 4
Add the beef stock and whisk to eliminate the lumps as you stir. Continue cooking over medium high heat.
  • 5
Now combine Half & Half with yogurt into a small bowl and stir to mix together.
  • 6
Add yogurt mixture to gravy & stir over medium LOW heat. REDUCE HEAT TO LOW. Add in steak seasoning, stir and taste to check for flavor. Continue cooking over medium low heat.
  • 7
Add the meat balls, and stir to prevent sticking.
  • 8
Stir Sauce over meat balls, and allow to simmer an additional 10 -15 minutes.
  • 9
Serve over rice or pasta, and add chopped chive or parsley as garnish if desired.
