Blue Ribbon Recipe

A simple and delicious meatloaf. The homemade seasoning mix adds tons of flavor to the ground beef. Ketchup adds a sweetness that contrasts the savoriness of the meat. Serve with mashed potatoes and a veggie for a comforting, budget-friendly meal. One pound of ground beef makes a smaller meatloaf which is perfect if you have a smaller family.

Ingredients For meatloaf with homemade seasoning mix

  • 1 lb
    ground beef, lean
  • 2 lg
    eggs, beaten
  • 1 c
    plain Panko crumbs
  • 3/4 c
    ketchup, divided
  • meatloaf seasoning
  • MEATLOAF SEASONING
  • 1 tsp
    dried mustard (if you don't have any 1 Tbsp of prepared mustard = 1 tsp dry)
  • 1 tsp
    paprika
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 3/4 tsp
    dried thyme
  • 3/4 tsp
    basil
  • 1/2 tsp
    pepper
  • 1 tsp
    garlic powder
  • 1 tsp
    onion powder

Test Kitchen Tips
To look better in the photos, we did use 1.5 pounds of ground beef for testing. We adjusted the other ingredients accordingly.
  • Prepping a loaf pan while oven preheats.

    Preheat oven to 350 F. Lightly grease a baking pan.
  • Meatloaf seasonings in a bowl.

    Combine meatloaf seasonings in a bowl.
  • Ground beef, eggs, and ketchup in a bowl.

    Place the ground beef, eggs, and 1/2 cup of ketchup in a large bowl.
  • Panko crumbs and seasonings added.

    Add Panko bread crumbs and meatloaf seasoning.
  • Mixture combined in the bowl.

    Mix by hand.
  • Meat in a loaf pan with ketchup spread on top.

    Form into a loaf shape and place in a prepared baking pan. Drizzle with the remaining 1/4 cup of ketchup.
  • Baking the meatloaf.

    Bake for 1 hour in preheated oven.
