I've tried many ham glaze recipes and my husband didn't really care for any of them, so I came up with this glaze that incorporates his favorites - bourbon and cherry. It's very simple and very tasty, and my husband just loves it (as do I).

Blue Ribbon Recipe

A glaze takes a baked ham from basic to amazing! The flavors of bourbon and cherry juice are different than other ham glaze recipes we've seen and used. It's thick and sweet. Mixed with the savory ham it's just delicious. This is a delicious glaze for a holiday ham. Guests will be wondering what the unique flavor it. It's also a great recipe for a beginner cook because there are very few ingredients.

Ingredients For cherry bourbon ham glaze

  • 1 c
    brown sugar
  • 1/4 c
    cherry juice
  • 1/4 c
bourbon (my preference is Jim Beam because of its more smoky taste)

How To Make cherry bourbon ham glaze

  • Glaze ingredients boiling on the stove.
    1
In a small saucepan, mix all ingredients together and bring to a boil, stirring constantly, making sure mixture is "saucy" (about 4-5 minutes). You can make this ahead of time and let sit until you are ready to pour it over the ham.
  • Pouring the glaze over the ham.
    2
Pour glaze over ham 1 hour before ham is done.
  • Brushing more glaze onto the ham.
    3
Uncover ham for the last 20 minutes and baste with glaze at least twice.
