maga's citrus cranberry relish

I can't tell you how long I've been making this citrusy cranberry relish; it's one of those dishes that the family expects to see on the table every holiday. I have found that fresh orange juice and orange zest really gives it a great burst of flavor. You may also use bottled orange juice instead of the fresh orange juice if desired.

Ingredients For maga's citrus cranberry relish

  • 3 c
    cranberries, fresh see note
  • 1 lg
    navel orange
  • grated orange peel
  • 1 c
    orange juice and water
  • 1 c
    sugar
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt

How To Make maga's citrus cranberry relish

  • Three cups cranberries.

    Rinse cranberries and remove any that are soft and/or shriveled. Measure three cups.

    Grate the zest off the orange and place the zest in a one cup measuring cup.
  • Add water to fresh orange juice and zest in cup to measure one cup.

    Juice the orange and pour into the measuring cup. Fill up to one cup mark with water.
  • Orange juice, water, sugar and salt coming to a boil.

    Place sugar, salt, and orange juice mixture into medium sauce pan, heat to boiling.
  • Add cranberries to the orange juice mixture on the stove.

    Add cranberries and return to boil, then lower the heat and simmer about ten minutes until it reaches the desired consistency, stirring occasionally.
  • Citrus Cranberry Relish

    Place in a decorative dish and allow to cool; refrigerate. Store leftovers in the refrigerator.

    NOTE: One twelve ounce package is approximately three cups of cranberries. You may use fresh or frozen cranberries.
