This tuna salad recipe was given to me by a local restaurateur. I loved his version so much that he relented and gave me the recipe. And then I tweaked it with a couple "extras." Revised 03-16-2017

Ingredients For ellen's "famous" tuna salad

  • 2 can
    (5 oz. ea.) solid white albacore tuna
  • 1/3 c
    finely chopped celery hearts
  • 1/2 c
    hellman's real mayonnaise
  • 1/4 c
    finely chopped onion or 1 tbsp. minced onion
  • 1 tsp
    real lemon juice
  • 1/3 c
    chopped walnuts
  • 1 dash
    dill weed

How To Make ellen's "famous" tuna salad

    In a medium size bowl, combine the tuna with the mayonnaise (do NOT use Miracle Whip--it won't taste the same). Mix well, breaking up chunks of tuna.

    Fold in celery, onion, and lemon juice until well blended.

    Add walnuts and dill. Toss. Serve on thick slices of rye or pumpernickel.

    If I'm only making this for myself I cut the recipe in half. It can easily be halved, doubled, or tripled for more people.
