I was looking for a good slaw recipe. I am not a real fan of mayonnaise in slaw, so was looking for something different. This fit the bill. We enjoyed it and hope you do too. I don't remember where I found the recipe. Too long ago.

Ingredients For amish slaw

    medium head cabbage, cored and shredded
  • 1
    medium onion, finely chopped
  • 1
    red bell pepper, finely chopped
  • 1
    green bell pepper, finely chopped
  • 1 c
    sugar
  • 1 c
    vinegar
  • 1 tsp
    salt
  • 1 Tbsp
    celery seed
  • 1 tsp
    sugar
  • 1 tsp
    prepared mustard
  • 3/4 c
    vegetable oil

How To Make amish slaw

    In a large bowl, toss together the cabbage, onion, bell peppers and 1 cup sugar.

    In a small saucepan, combine the vinegar, salt, celery seed, 1 teaspoon sugar, mustard and oil. Bring to a boil, and cook for 3 minutes. Cool completely, then pour over cabbage mixture, and toss to coat.

    Coat and refrigerate overnight for best flavor.
