I got this from Hints by Heloise. I put it here so I wouldn't keep losing the recipe. It works great!

Ingredients

  • 1 c
lard (rendered fat of hogs, not vegetable oil)
  • 1 c
peanut butter (crunchy or plain) i use natural no sugar or salt
  • 1 c
    flour
  • 2 c
    instant oatmeal
  • 2 c
    cornmeal
  • 1 c
    raisins
  • 1 c
    ground peanuts (unsalted)

How to Make Bird Suet

Step-by-Step

  1. Carefully melt the lard and peanut butter in a very large pot over low heat, then add all of the other ingredients and stir to mix.
  2. Pour into a large pan and put in the refrigerator overnight. It will firm up.
  3. Cut into blocks to fit your suet feeder. Or you can reuse the containers that commercial suet comes in.
  4. Heloise says: Why spend a bunch of money on fancy feeder hooks when a good old coat hanger will work great? Jut bend it into a hook on each end, or use tow if you need it longer and you have a strong inexpensive suet hanger!
