M.V. Island, MA

Whenever I go by this particular spot, I love seeing the view of the ocean on the South side of the island. However, in between the road and that horizon there is a field, with a pond down low, and hills on the West side, and woods on the left. Usually there are cows grazing, and when it's haying time, I love the sight of the newly mown hay laying in the sun to dry. Then comes the day they gather it and roll it. Now we have learned that the farmer has passed away. He'll be missed but not forgotten by his four grown children, his wife, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

7/29/11 My husband and I attended the service for Ozzie, and there were hundreds in attendance. His family included wife, two sons and two daughters, and fifteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. Four off-spring spoke with feelings of love and emotion about Dad or Poppy, telling us funny stories familiar to some of us who knew him for years. The funniest one was about: Priming the cow! It was hillarious! Imagine a youngster watching this old farmer sitting on a stool, with a teat in each hand as he was about to "milk the cow". He told the eager on-watcher to go and stand by the tail of the cow, and pull on it. And then he would say, pull it harder, and then he'd start to milk the cow and it would collect in the bucket. He'd encourage the child by saying, great job! Can you imagine this child going home to wherever, after summer vacation, and writing about: "What I did on my vacation"? It brought tears to our eyes and laughter all around.
