Problem Solved. I have had two CrockPot's in my lifetime that did not work properly because of a Manufacturer's Defect. They would not produce the needed heat & double the cook time if I did not put a dish towel on top of the lid to keep the steam & heat from escaping. The lid would be a little tipsy or awkward and this would allow steam to escape & my dish would take forever to cook. When you order online & you don't have a car returning the product can be a real hassle & inconvenient. So I made this today in just a few hours time & It is perfect for that imperfection in alignment.

    black material cut in a circle

    canvas type material cut in a circle

    thermal material cut in a circle

How To Make crockpot doily steam retainer

  • The Canvas, Black, Thermal and Felt Materials use to make the Crockpot Doily

    Gather Your Materials I used these four to make sure it would have enough weight so the steam could not escape plus be lightweight and thermal to retain the heat.
  • The inside of the Crockpot Doily can be reversible Black/Canvas or Canvas/Black

    Cut all your circles out of the materials at least 1 inch larger than the lid. Or just find something circular that is larger than the Crockpot Lid like a 5 gallon bucket lid. This Doily Recipe is for a 4Qt Round Crockpot. The size of this Crockpot Doily Steam Retainer is exactly 12 X 12 inches.
  • Embroidered Sewing Stitch on Edges using the Sewing Machine makes a nice trim.

    After Cutting all the Circles out just pin together so it is nice and even then sew around the edge with a straight stitch 1/4 in inside. Then when you are done do a ZigZag embroidery stitch around the diameter of the circle twice no need to make a trim.
  • Button Hole Cutout for the Handle on the Crockpot so it rests nicely on the lid

    Now the best part: Make a button hole for the handle to fit into in the center of the Doily. Make sure you stitch a rectangle in the center of the doily that is the width of the handle then cut the center out with an exacto knife and then embroider the edges. This will keep the Doily Resting on the glass lid and no steam can escape. It is also convenient to just pick up the lid and the doily when you need to stir the contents.
  • Tin Foil Liner Makes it Easy To Keep The Doily from getting Stained when Cooking Sauces or when filled to much and Bubbles Over.

    Tip: When making Sauces or when you have filled your Crockpot to the brim and it is ready to over-flo when it bubbles (C'mon Now it happens sometimes) it is a good idea to use a large piece of Tin Foil cut out with a button hole in it underneath and on the glass. Just fold up the edges. That way the Doily does not get any juices on it or stains from Sauces. Plus you can lift the Doily on and off with the Tin Foil Attached with ease. Caution: Make sure your Doily is Light Weight so that some Steam can escape. You want your Doily to rest Lightly on top of the glass. This Doily is only for Crockpots that do not Slow Cook Properly. You have to let the Crockpot be able to release some steam so don't seal the edges with the foil. *Also be sure you are home when using this product so you can keep an eye on it!*
