this was my cooking hating mothers pride and joy. The ingredients date it for sure. Late 50s - 60s. Don't know how long they made this stuff before mom finagled the recipe out of the Chef at Akron City Club .. It was a well loved signature dish there & don't know how she got this recipe. Don't let the ingredients make ya go ewww .It's a wonderful flavor explosion in your mouth. A touch of sweet n heat and a hidden creaminess. Capers were my addition. been having a cancer craving for this and had not had it in 35 years. Making it and thinking " will it be what I remember? " YUP. YUM.!!!

Ingredients For akron city club shrimp

  • 1 lb
    shelled shrimp
  • 1 c
    mayonnaise
  • 1/2 c
    chili sauce
  • 2 tsp
    chutney
  • 2 tsp
    paprika
  • cayenne pepper
  • 1 1/2 tsp
    worcestershire sauce
  • capers *optional
  • parmesan cheese

How To Make akron city club shrimp

    Devain and shell shrimp wash well

    Mix mayonnaise . Chili sauce. Chutney. Worcestershire. Paprika . Cayenne pepper ( good dash if you don't like heat. My family likes heat so I use at least a heaping 1/2 teaspoon of. Ya need a little just one shake to give it that small punch in flavor. ).. Mix in shrimp If you like capers mix them in . I use about a heaping tablespoon ..Capers were not part of the original but I like the pop of saltiness it adds to the lite sweet heat.

    Pour mixture into oven safe dish top with grated parmesan cheese Bake 350° 25 - 30 minutes. Let rest 5 minutes before serving Great served with red rice. ( Pour I pack of goya tomato bouillon into white rice and cook as directed)
