  • 2 Tbsp
  • 2 tsp
    dijon mustard
  • 2 large
    free-run eggs
  • 1/4 c
    half and half
  • 1/8 tsp
  • 6 slice
    sourdough bread
  • 6 slice
    gruyère or swiss cheese
  • 6 slice
    thin black forest ham
  • 6 slice
    thin smoked turkey
  • 3 Tbsp
    clarified butter, or more if needed

How to Make Monte Cristo Sandwich


  1. In a small bowl, combine mayo and mustard; stir and set aside. In a shallow bowl, combine egg, half-and-half and paprika; stir and set aside.
  2. To assemble the sandwiches, apply a thin layer of spread on each bread slice. Place a slice of cheese on 3 of them followed with 2 slices and ham and 2 slices of turkey. Place a slice of cheese on top and then the other slices of bread, spread facing down.
  3. In a panini pan over medium heat, add clarified butter. When hot, dip each sandwich in the egg mixture both side. Quickly place them in the pan and cook 3 minutes per side or until golden brown. Remove, cut and serve immediately. Makes 3 sandwiches
