    chinese five spice powder
  • 1 tsp
    white pepper
  • 1 tsp
    ginger powder
  • 2 stalk
    spring onions

How To Make steamed baymax pork buns (baozi)

  • 1
For the buns: Mix together all purpose flour, 25g of sugar, olive oil, yeast, and 265g water to form a smooth dough. Leave it to rest for about 30 minutes before using.
  • 2
Meanwhile make your pork filling: Put your minced pork into a large bowl, mix the pork with a pair of chopsticks, adding one tablespoon of water at a time (total 4 tablespoons) Then add in the rest of your ingredients, mix thoroughly (soy, sugar, sesame oil, five spices, white pepper, ginger, and chopped spring onions).
  • 3
To assemble: Turn your dough onto a lightly floured surface, knead until smooth then divide into 8 portions. Shape each portion into a ball, flatten, using your rolling pin, start rolling the edges in a clockwise fashion to form round discs, the center of the disc should be slightly thicker.
  • 4
Put a good amount of filling into the center of each disc and pinch the tops to seal. Flip it over (sealed side down) and start drawing Baymax's features with your edible charcoal yolk mix.
  • 5
Now your buns are ready to go in the steamer. Arrange the buns in a parchment lined bamboo/metal steamer. Allow the buns to rest for at least 10 minutes before steaming. Steam for about 30 minutes.
