I found this recipe in my mom's old recipe box. I made it yesterday, and was so pleased at how good and easy it is, that I wanted to share it. (I didn't have the cayenne pepper on hand, so I used a pinch of red pepper flakes)

Ingredients For holiday jambalaya

  • 1 c
    white regular grain rice, uncooked
  • 1 clove
    garlic, minced
  • 3 Tbsp
    butter
  • 1/2 c
    chopped celery
  • 1/2 c
    chopped onion
  • 2 c
    water
  • 3/4 c
    heinz chili sauce
  • 1/2 c
    chopped green pepper
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 1/4 tsp
    thyme
  • 1/8-1/4 tsp
    cayenne
  • 1 c
    cubed cooked ham
  • 1 c
    cooked, peeled, frozen shrimp
  • 2-3 md
    tomatoes cut into chunks (i used 3 roma tomatoes)

How To Make holiday jambalaya

    In large heavy soup kettle, saute' rice and garlic in butter until rice is golden. Stir in celery and onion, continue sauteing until tender, stirring constantly. Stir in water and next 5 ingredients; bring to a boil. Cover; simmer 20 minutes.

    Add ham, shrimp, and tomatoes.

    Cover; simmer an additional 10 minutes or until rice is tender. (You may need to add a little more water if this starts to stick to the bottom of your pan) Stir well before serving. Makes about 6/12 cups.
