Blue Ribbon Recipe

We love cooking with bourbon when it's combined with something sweet and savory. The glaze becomes thick as it cooks. As it cooled a bit, it becomes even thicker. Bourbon adds a little something to the glaze but does not have a harsh alcohol taste. The flavors of the orange marmalade, bourbon, and honey are perfect in this glaze.

How To Make bourbon honey glazed ham

Test Kitchen Tips
A 5 lb ham is small. We used an 8 lb ham and had more than enough glaze for it. If you opt for a larger ham adjust the cooking time (15-20 minutes per pound at 350 F).
  • Preheating the oven.
    1
    Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Bourbon, honey, molasses, and marmalade reducing in a saucepan.
    2
In a medium saucepan, heat bourbon, honey, molasses, and marmalade over low heat for 15 minutes or until reduced by half; stirring occasionally. Set aside.
  • Studding the ham with cloves.
    3
With a sharp knife, cut diamond pattern on the fatty part of the ham. Stud whole cloves in each diamond, at points where lines cross.
  • Brushing some of the glaze on the ham.
    4
Spread half of the glaze over the ham.
  • Baking in the bourbon glazed ham.
    5
Roast for 30 minutes, uncovered. Baste occasionally with remaining glaze and continue to roast for another 15 minutes.
  • Baked ham resting.
    6
Let ham stand for 20 minutes before slicing.
