Ingredients

FOR THE CRUST
-
1 tspjarred yeast
-
2 Tbspwarm water
-
1 tsphoney
-
1/2 ccold water
-
1 Tbspolive oil
-
1/4 tspsalt
-
1 1/3 cwhole wheat flour
-
FOR THE MEAT BALLS
-
1/2 lbground turkey breast
-
1/2 crolled oats
-
2 largelarge mushrooms, very finely diced
-
1/4 tspgarlic powder
-
1/4 tsponion powder
-
1/4 tspsalt
-
1/8 tspground pepper
-
2 Tbspextra virgin olive oil (for cooking the meatballs in)
-
TOPPINGS (ALL BUT THE SAUCE AND MOZZARELLA CHEESE ARE OPTIONAL, USE IN ANY VARIETY YOU CHOOSE)

1/2 - 2/3 cpizza sauce, storebought or your homemade
-
8 ozshredded, low moisture, part skim mozzarella cheese
-
1/2 cbaby spinach leaves
-
2 clovegarlic, minced
-
3fresh mushrooms, sliced
-
1/4 cchopped green pepper
-
1/4 cdiced red onion
-
1/4 csliced olives (whatever type you prefer)
How to Make Turkey Meatball Pizza with Whole Wheat Crust
- In a large bowl, stir together the yeast & warm water, add honey and set aside for 10 minutes.
- Meanwhile in a glass measuring cup, combine the cold water, oil and salt. Add the cold water mixture to the yeast and stir in flour.
- Knead the dough on a heavily floured board until smooth and elastic (about 8 minutes)
- Put the dough in a lightly greased bowl and turn to coat. Let the dough rise, covered loosely with plastic food wrap in a warm, draft free place for 1 hour.
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Mix ground turkey with oats, mushrooms, garlic powder, onion powder, salt and pepper. Shape into bite size balls. Dress a cookie sheet with olive oil, cook meat balls in 350 degree oven for 15-20 minutes or until cooked through. (I know this is cheating with meatballs, but it makes it so much easier, you can cook them in a skillet if your prefer)
- Remove turkey meatballs and raise oven temp to 425 degrees.
- Roll out the crust to desired thickness.
- Ladle and spread the pizza sauce over crust.
- Place meat balls over pizza sauce and layer the vegetables you've chosen over the top.
- Sprinkle mozzarella cheese over the top.
- Bake in oven until the cheese is just starting to brown, about 12 - 15 minutes.
