Well, I didn't have a can of enchilada sauce so I had to make my own!! It turned out VERY tasty!!!! It was perfect with the tamale pie I made with it!!!

Ingredients

  • 2 Tbsp
    canola oil
  • 2 Tbsp
    flour
  • 2 Tbsp
    chili powder
  • 1/2 Tbsp
    cumin
  • 1/4 tsp
    ground cayenne
  • 1 15 ounce can(s)
    tomato sauce
  • 1 Tbsp
    garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp
    onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp
    kosher salt
  • 3/4 c
    chicken stock (canned or box)

How to Make Enchilada Sauce

Step-by-Step

  1. Heat oil in skillet, add flour and stir over medium heat until flour just starts to brown and smells nutty.
  2. Add tomato sauce and stir.
  3. Mix in all of the spices.
  4. Add chicken stock to sauce to thin to desired thickness and heat on low for 20 minutes, stirring frequently.
  5. Add more chicken stock as needed for consistency. Use for whatever recipe you would like!
