So easy, yet so tasty...My Grandma used to make this for us when Mom was working...it sure is a comforting meal...hope you like it as much as we do...I added mushrooms & onions...totally optional... Photos are mine.

Ingredients For salisbury steak - grams way

  • 2 lb
    ground beef
  • 1 pkg
    liptons french onion soup mix
  • 1
    egg
  • 1/2 c
    cracker or bread crumbs
  • 1 can
    can, drained sliced mushrooms, or could use fresh that have been sauted
  • 1 - 1.61 oz
    package pioneer brand brown gravy mix - making sure you get the right size
  • 1 c
    sour cream
  • 2 c
    water, divided
  • 1 md
    onion, sliced and sauted - optional
  • prepared egg noodles, rice or mashed potatoes

How To Make salisbury steak - grams way

    Preheat oven to 350 degree F. Spray a 9 x 13 baking dish or pan with non stick cooking spray. Set aside.

    In a medium bowl, mix ground beef, bread or cracker crumbs, egg and soup mix thoroughly.

    Make 6 - 8 patties. I shape them like footballs. In a skillet, fry the patties until they are browned on both sides. If using onion, slightly brown them with the burgers,

    While the hamburgers are cooking; in a bowl mix together the dry gravy mix, 1/2 cup water and sour cream. If using mushrooms, mix them in as well.

    Bring 1 1/2 cups cold water to a boil in a saucepan. Stir in the gravy/ sour cream mixture; bring to a slow boil until thickened ( about 1 minute)

    When burgers are browned on both sides. Place then in the baking dish. ( along with onions if using, spreading them out evenly). Pour the gravy mixture evenly over the burgers. Cover with foil. Bake for about 40 minutes; turning burgers halfway through baking. Return to oven and continue baking until meat is thoroughly cooked, and gravy bubbling.
