In trying to teach my daughter that you can make your own "Hamburger Helper" without the box, I came up with this dish. It is now a regular on our menu and we just love it.

Ingredients For bacon cheesburger skillet

  • 1 lb
    ground beef
  • 4 slice
    bacon, chopped
  • 1
    onion, chopped
  • 10 oz
    diced tomatoes with green chilis
  • 8 oz
    tomato sauce
  • 1 tsp
    mustard powder
  • 1/2 tsp
    chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp
    each, salt and pepper
  • 4 oz
    elbow macaroni
  • 1/2 c
    shredded sharp cheddar cheese

How To Make bacon cheesburger skillet

    Bring a pot of salted water to a boil and cook the macaroni until tender, drain and set aside.

    In a large skillet, sauté the bacon over medium high heat till it begins to look crisp, add in the ground beef and cook till the ground beef is done, drain the grease. Add in the onion and cook for 2-3 minutes until the onion is tender. Add in the diced tomatoes, tomato sauce and spices. Stir to combine well. Gradually add in the cooked macaroni and stir to combine. Stir in the shredded cheese till it melts and is also well combined.
