Growing up in Iowa, Guinea Grinders were a staple. When I moved west folks thought I was talking about a fuzzy little animal. But once they ate one they never forgot what it was. This is one of my favorite sandwiches and it became one of my husbands too. But we always have a good laugh at his first experience with it. I forgot to get the buns when I was at the store so I sent him back to get some while I cooked the meat. He looked at me kind of funny but shrugged and went out the door. I realized why when he came back with a package of "Huggies" instead of Hoagie buns.

We like to put extras on the table like fresh sliced mushrooms, pepper chine's, green pepper, onion etc. They are also GREAT served with onion rings.
