This is a great comfort food! It takes less than 30 minutes and everything is cooked in one pot!

Ingredients For hamburger helper copycat

  • 1 1/2 lb
    lean ground beef
  • ground himalayan sea salt, to taste and divided
  • freshly ground black pepper, to taste and divided (i always use mixed peppercorns)
  • 1/2 c
    red onions, finely chopped
  • 2 lg
    cloves garlic, pressed
  • 2 Tbsp
    ketchup
  • 1 Tbsp
    tomato paste
  • 1 Tbsp
    prepared mustard
  • 1/2 Tbsp
    hot sauce, such as cholula®
  • 1/2 Tbsp
    taco seasoning
  • 2 c
    uncooked elbow macaroni
  • 3 c
    low-sodium beef broth
  • 1 c
    light sour cream
  • 2 c
    sharp cheddar cheese, grated
  • 1 Tbsp
    fresh parsley, chopped

How To Make hamburger helper copycat

  • 1
    In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add beef and break it down into small pieces; season with salt and pepper. When half way cooked, add onions and continue cooking until meat is no longer pink and onions are softened, about 2 ½ to 3 minutes. Add garlic and sauté for 1 minute.

    Add ketchup, tomato paste, mustard, hot sauce, taco seasoning, and re-season with salt and freshly ground black pepper; stir well. Add macaroni and pour in broth; stir well. Bring to a boil then reduce to medium-low, cover and simmer for 15 minutes or until macaroni is cooked through.

    Add sour cream and stir well. Add cheese and stir until melted. Sprinkle on some chopped parsley and serve immediately. Serves 4
