This recipe comes from (Eat what you Love) cook book. it's low in fat, and very simple to make. You can substitute turkey for beef, or use 1/2 each.

Ingredients For surprise turkey joes

  • 1 lb
    lean ground turkey (or half turkey & half beef)
  • 1/2 c
    onion (diced)
  • 1 sm
    bell pepper (diced)
  • 2 tsp
    all purpose flour
  • 3/4 c
    dr pepper (or cola) i use diet pepsi
  • 1/2 c
    low sugar ketchup (regular is fine to)
  • 1 Tbsp
    vinegar
  • 1 Tbsp
    worcestershire sauce
  • pinch of salt
  • 6
    whole wheat hamburger buns

How To Make surprise turkey joes

  • 1
    In a medium skillet over medium heat, brown the turkey with the onion, & bell pepper. (drain)
  • 2
    add the remaining ingredients mix thoroughly. reduce the heat, & simmer for 15 to 20 minutes until thickened.

    serve a scant 1/4 cup on each bun.
