This is one of my mothers recipes. It was clipped from the local newspaper. I remember how yummy and tender the steak was.

Ingredients For snappy swiss steak

  • 3 Tbsp
    all purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 1/4 tsp
    black pepper
  • 1 1/2 lb
    beef round steak (3/4 inch thick)
  • 2/3 c
    catalina dressing
  • 8 oz
    tomato sauce
  • 1/4 c
    water
  • 1 md
    onion, sliced
  • 1
    bell pepper,cut into strips

How To Make snappy swiss steak

  • 1
    Combine flour,salt and pepper in a small bowl. Sprinkle flour mixture on both sides of steak. Rub evenly over steak.Pound flour mixture into the steak using a meat mallet or the edge of a saucer.

    Cut meat into serving size pieces. Heat 1/3 cup of the dressing in a skillet over low heat. add meat to the skillet. Cook until browned on both sides, turning once.

    Add remaining dressing, tomato sauce, water and onions. Cover. Simmer 1 hour and 45 minutes.

    Add bell pepper. Cover.Continue simmering 15 more minutes or until meat and vegetables are tender.
