sloppy guido

Homemade pasta sauce, ground sirloin and ciabatta bread, and lots of cheese = yummy Italian sloppy joe. I've also made these using Texas toast and/or subbing vegetarian Boca crumbles. I like mine with cottage cheese right on the sandwich but maybe that's just me! So quick and easy!! (I use my Loaded Veggie Pasta Sauce but you can use whatever sauce you like!) http://www.justapinch.com/recipes/main-course/italian/loaded-veggie-pasta-sauce-slow-cooker.html?p=1

Ingredients For sloppy guido

  • 1 lb
ground sirloin or one package vegetarian "meat" crumbles
  • 3-4 c
favorite veggie pasta sauce (use as much sauce as needed to get the "sloppy joe" texture)
  • 4
ciabatta rolls or 8 texas toast slices
  • mozzarella cheese, asiago cheese, and parmesan cheese
  • butter, softened
  • garlic salt or mccormick's garlic bread sprinkles
  • cottage cheese (optional)

How To Make sloppy guido

  • 1
Brown ground sirloin, drain and add to pasta sauce; heat. If using vegetarian crumbles, add directly to sauce and heat thoroughly.
  • 2
Split ciabatta rolls and butter inside of each half; sprinkle with garlic salt or Garlic Bread Sprinkles. Place on pan and broil for about 5 minutes until lightly brown and crispy. Remove from broiler.
  • 3
Spread one half of roll with thick layer of pasta meat sauce; cover with cheese and place some cheese on other half of roll as well. Broil again just until cheese is melted. Remove and serve. (If desired, right before serving, place a couple spoonfuls of cottage cheese on sandwich before topping with second half of roll...mmmmm!)
