This is not so much cooking as it is construction. You can use either corned beef or pastrami for this whatever you like the best. Mustard too is whatever you like.

Ingredients For ruben sandwiches

  • 4 slice
    rye bread, we like the seeded
  • 10 sm
    squirts liquid butter, on one side each of the slices of bread
  • 4 slice
    swiss cheese, one for each slice of bread
  • 4 to 5 tsp
    grainey deli mustard for each slice of bread
  • 3 to 4 oz
    corned beef,or pastrami sliced very thinly so you can stack it
  • 4 Tbsp
    or more sauerkraut, to your liking
  • 4 Tbsp
    thousand island dressing

How To Make ruben sandwiches

  • 1
    On one side of each slice of bread, spray liberally with the spray butter.
  • 2
    Flip bread slices over,spread with mustard, and put a slice of swiss cheese on each slice of bread.

    Pile on your corned beef, then sauerkraut, then drizzle the Thousand Island dressing over.

    Grill on each side until golden brown and cheese melts.
  • 5
    Great partners are dill pickles, and potato salad.
