This is a quick casserole version of hamburger steak with onions, brown gravy, and potatoes. It is great comfort food and so easy to make!

This hamburger potato casserole is a flavorful and easy recipe. The final result is a cross between a baked goulash and beef stew. Between the onion soup mix and gravy mixes, there is plenty of seasoning. As this casserole cooks, the gravy thickens and the potatoes soak up all the flavor. The perfect weeknight meal. Ingredients

  • 1 lb
    ground beef, lean
  • 4-5 medium
    potatoes
  • 1 medium
    onion
  • 1 pkg
    dry onion soup mix
  • 2 pkg
    brown gravy mix
  • 3 c
    water, divided

How to Make Hamburger Potato Casserole

Step-by-Step

  1. Brown ground beef until no longer pink and drain.
  2. Wash & peel potatoes.
  3. Slice potatoes into 1/4 inch strips and place in the bottom of a large deep dish casserole pan that has been sprayed with cooking spray.
  4. Add one cup of water to cover potatoes.
  5. Sprinkle with onion soup mix.
  6. Slice onion and place over the potatoes.
  7. Mix brown gravy mix with 2 cups of water and whisk to mix.
  8. Place cooked hamburger meat over the onions and potatoes. Then pour gravy over meat.
  9. Cover with foil. Bake 1 hour at 350 degrees.
