My mom made this when I was growing up. I changed it a bit by adding the the diced tomatoes and cheese because my husband thinks you should put tomatoes in everything and I love cheese!

Ingredients For gail's goulash

  • 1 lb
    ground beef
  • salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 can
    ranch style beans 15 oz
  • 1 can
    tomato sauce 8 oz
  • 1 can
    diced tomatoes (optional) 15 oz
  • 1 c
    rice, long grain (scant)
  • 2 1/4 c
    water
  • 1 tsp
    salt
  • 2 tsp
    cooking oil (olive)
  • 1/2 c
    cheese, shredded (optional)

How To Make gail's goulash

  • 1
    Combine rice, salt, oil and water in saucepan. Boil covered for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until done. Cover and set aside.

    Brown ground beef with salt and pepper to taste until done then drain.

    Add beans,tomato sauce and tomatoes (if desired) Heat thoroughly.

    Add two cups (or more) cooked rice to beef mixture. Stir together until well blended and hot. Note a small amount of water may be added, if needed.

    Top with 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese-optional.
