scd high-calorie shake

If you have a kid with IBD, you sometimes need easy ways to get them extra calories. This is completely SCD compliant, delicious, and packed with calories. It also has ingredients that were easy on my kid’s tummy even early in the diet. If you do better with a different/no nut butter, feel free to switch the ingredients up some. The combination of extracts & lemon flavoring make most shakes made with them taste good, so don’t be afraid to try those flavorings with shakes that use substitutions for the other ingredients.

Ingredients For scd high-calorie shake

  • 1
    banana (frozen is nice)
  • 2-3 Tbsp
    raw cashew butter (optional)
  • 1 c
scd yogurt made from half & half
  • 2-3 Tbsp
    honey (optional)
  • 1
cap-full vanilla extract (trader joe’s has a no sugar one)
  • 1
    cap-full of almond extract
  • 1
cap-full of frontier co-op lemon flavoring (lemon oil in sunflower oil)

How To Make scd high-calorie shake

Use a high powered blender like Vitamix to purée the ingredients. If you don’t have a high powered blender, it may help to keep the banana un-frozen, and you may need to thin with some extra yogurt or banana, or use no/less nut butter. If you stir some light flavored olive oil into the nut butter beforehand until well incorporated, it may blend more easily.

Tip: I can easily make a double batch in my Vitamix, and pour leftovers into glass mason jars. They store for several days in the fridge with no problem, and can even be taken along somewhere, when you need to grab food to take in a pinch.
