Ingredients For homemade tia maria

  • 4 tsp
    instant coffee (substitute instant espresso)
  • 1/2 c
    boiling water
  • 2 1/2 c
    granulated sugar, or to taste
  • 1 1/2 c
    cold distilled water
  • 2 tsp
    pure vanilla extract
  • 750 ml
    (26 oz.) 94% alcohol

How To Make homemade tia maria

    In a measuring cup, add instant coffee and boiling water; stir until granules are dissolved and set aside.

    In a saucepan over medium heat, add sugar and cold water; stir until sugar is dissolved. Remove from the heat and let it sit for 15 minutes or until it gets to room temperature.

    Add vanilla, coffee and alcohol to sugar mixture; stir very well and transfer to a liqueur decanter. Let it rest for 3 to 4 weeks before serving. Yields 6 cups
